15K German Unification Day Run to the Brandenburg Gate, with 5K-Timed-IKEA-Run (24:37)
Our half marathon in Leipzig approaching next weekend, Gisi and I took off on Thursday, German Unification Day, for a 15K last training run. And what better goal to celebrate the day than to run through Berlin to the Brandenburg Gate. Since I want to get my 5K time down to 23 minutes again in the coming months, Gisi agreed to run via IKEA where we both ran my 5K route, she at her 7-minute-per-kilometer pace, and I as fast as I could, knocking 20 seconds off my previous time with a 24:37. We then continued up the nice running trails through Gleisdreieckpark to the Tempodrom, cut over through the city coming out at the Potsdamer Platz parcours area, then up to the Brandenburg Gate where Unification Day festivities were underway, although right at that point, it began to downpour a cold rain, so we jumped into a DriveNow car near the Reichstag and had a warm ride home.
