58K Bike Ride to Potsdam/Babelsberg and Back
Today was the Potsdam Half Marathon which I was signed up to run, but two weeks ago in my drive to run faster and faster 5Ks, I pulled my hamstring in the opposite leg that I pulled my hamstring last year. A few days ago, I was able to run 2K but my leg began hurting again, so I stopped and decided to not run the Potsdam Half Marathon. I also decided I need to do a lot more stretching and fitness exercises, so on June 1st, I began "Operation St. Petersburg Hard-Body" in which I stretch and do strength training of some kind every day until the St. Petersburg Marathon next year in June, as well as get my weight down again. This program will include lots of bike riding and swimming until I can get to a point where I can run long distances again. So since my friend Thorsten was running the Postdam Marathon, I decided to ride out to Potsdam, run with him for about a kilometer between 8K and 9K, then explore Potsdam and Babelsberg on my bike, an area which has a number of sizable hills, and then ride home, which turned out to be 58K of riding around the countryside today, quite a work out.
