2016 Berlin Firmenlauf (5K = 24:03)
My friend Mathias sent me a message the other day that a member of his team would not able to run for his company in the Berliner Firmenlauf and if I wanted to run. It's a quick 5.5 kilometer loop around the Tiergarten that you run with 10,000+ people on a Friday after work, so a great atmosphere, and I had run this two times before, and so of course accepted the offer. Compared to longer races where you get into a comfortable pace, this 5.5K is a whirlwind of sprinting. I, of course, started fast and tried to stay with Mathias, but to no avail, lost him at about 1K (he eventually finished with an impressive 00:23:19. Although I slowed into a easier pace, I pushed it the whole way, even the painful 1.5 kilometer straight-away at the end, and finished with a 00:26:28 (four seconds slower than my time two years ago), which made my 5K time about a 00:24:03. In all a fun race. Next race is in 8 days: The Potsdam Castle Half Marathon.
