Learning Activity by Month:

The primary goal of this Learn Tracker project is to build a web site which serves as one place to record the notes of everything that I am learning from MOOC classes, to foreign languages, to useful code examples and technical how-to notes, so that I not only have an overview of what I have learned, but can search and recall these notes at any time.

The secondary goal of this Learn Tracker project is to work together with companies, universities, and MOOC providers to build software that allows employees, students, and learners to record what they are learning in an efficient way so that it serves not only as (1) a record of what they have learned, but also (2) a place for them to review and search what they have learned.

Since January 2013, I have watched and recorded notes on over 300 MOOC lectures from over 30 different courses in both English and French, and have watched and recorded notes and flashcards on over 50 foreign language videos in Italian, French and Spanish. (I am curently still adding notes I took from 2013 and plan to be caught up by the end of January 2014.

ingratiating, adj. intended to gain approval or favor  "The horse is made to take on some of the characteristics of femininity, even ingratiating femininity."
abstemiousness, n. [ab-STEEM-ee-us-ness] the quality of being temperate or sparing in the use of food and strong drinks  "Two sides of the 19th century culture of sensibility's orientation toward reform were (1) the liberation of women from their internalized and brutally enforced limitation, and (2) reformation of the character of men, and both stemmed in part from the reformist impulses of women who sought to change manners from the vice, profanity, and wantonness in the dueling culture of the masculine sphere, to a way of life that celebrated virtue, abstemiousness, piousness, charity, homeliness, and an appreciation of the arts, and while these values were generally considered to be feminine, the fundamental intention was to reshape men, although each sex was to be softened and sensitized."

Vocabulary:
clade, n. From the Greek κλάδος ("branch"), a group of organisms that consists of a common ancestor and all its lineal descendants. Clades are nested, one in another, as each branch in turn splits into smaller branches. These splits reflect evolutionary history as populations diverged and evolved independently.  "Humans, other mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and fish are all part of a large clade of animals called the vertebrata, or vertebrates."
homology, n. From the Greek ὁμός ("same") and λόγος ("relation"), the existence of shared ancestry between a pair of structures, or genes, in different taxa, a shared ancestory between two or more different features or traits in different organisms.  ""A common example of homologous structures in evolutionary biology are the wings of bats and the arms of primates.""

JESUS IN SCRIPTURE AND TRADITION, University of Notre Dame
how to prepare for the restoration
John the Baptist insists that Israel prepare itself to meet the Messiah
if John proclaimed a baptism of repentance, and if Jesus consents to the proclamation of John, then we come to the conclusion that Jesus must have thought of himself as in need of forgiveness for his own sins
this conflicts with the church's claim that Jesus as the Son of God is sinless
the question becomes why Jesus is participating in this repentance that John the Baptist is proclaiming... view all notes
Vocabulary:
peccadillo, n. [pek-ah-DILL-oh] a relatively minor fault or sin  "Confession of sin in ancient Israel did not mean an unraveling of a lengthy laundry-list of personal peccadilloes, but rather, confession of sin often meant recalling God's gracious deeds for an ungrateful Israel, a humble admission that one was a member of this sinful people, a recounting of the infidelities and apostasies of Israel from early on down to one's own day, and a final resolve to change and be different from one's ancestors."
