Learn Academy

I'm going to explain the french term "Fete des voisins". It's a common party the French celebrate with their neighbors. Often they celebrate it to get to know each other or just to hang around and talk and play games. I think that's a really good idea because otherwise you actually don't know your neighbors but you would be friends if you would find a way to get to know them. I watched a new pur plus episode. It was about electric equipment and free time without it. He made an experiment with a family. They had to put all their electric equipment into a box and Eric, the moderator, locked it. The family had no electric stuff for two and a half days. Usually the boy plays games on his computer and the girl chats with her friends. The mother plays games on her iPad and the father watches TV in his free time. But now they had to spend their time differently. On the first day they all where kind of bored. The mother knitted a bit, but the others didn't know what to do. The whole family said it was so quiet without music playing on the radio or music in the car. On the second day of the experiment the family got some ideas. The boy played with his plastic figures and played the drums, the girl cleaned her room and sharpened her pencils and actually cleaned the kitchen. The mother and the father read books. They also had more family time and communicated more at the table because there was no radio in the background playing music or talking about the weather or something. They also said that they sat longer at the table talking, because there was no strict time to turn an the TV because a show was starting. They played table tennis in the garden and spent much time together as a family. But, when Eric came, they all were happy to have their electric stuff back. Then Eric started another experiment, but this time he did it by himself. He wanted to get bored and wanted to see what boredom was going to do with him. He had to sort colored clothespins into diffrent boxes plus there was a color with clothespins in two sizes. He had to do that for six hours for two days. On the first day he first was kind of enjoying it but a little bit later he started to get bored. At the end of the day he was really frustrated and he said that he didn't want to talk to anyone that evening. The second day he didn't have any fun and had a bad mood the whole time during the work. When the experiment ended, he said, he couldn't appreciate the end because of how angry he was. So, boredom can be good for the mind for new ideas but too much boredom can be bad for you and, if it lasts for a long period of time, can even make you sick. Now you can give me 10 points. 

I created a self created thing, actually I made two of them: I sewed them and they are really soft. I like to put them next to my bed. 

I created self made wrist-warmers. They are red and really warm and I use them when my hands are cold. 

I downloaded MAGIX MUSIK MAKER and created a song (you already listened to it). 

I made a muffin out of felt. It was quite hard but it was fun. In school I opened my lunchbox in front of my friends and got out my muffun. 

They laughed. Here is a picture of it. I'll make more of them. =) 

I found out that if you press "alt" and you press the numbers on the right you  

get funny symbols, numbers and letters.

I saw on DIY that someone made a bag out of newspaper. I thought, oh, that's cool, I'll try it out. And then I made it. Actually it's quite easy, you just have to make sure the handle is done right. It looks a bit unstable but you can really carry heavy things like books and games and even lunchboxes. I think it was worth to build it because it is environmentally friendly. 

I made these two puppets. Their names are "Happy Blue" and "Blinky". I sewed them with blankets and felt. They are very soft and you can cuddle with them and they will warm your ears. That is practical, especially in winter. Now you can give me 100 points because one is 50 points and I sewed two of them. =) 

I did four lessons at babbel in french. I chose Level 3 from 4, but it was totally easy. Here are some phrases that I learned:

I like this painting because it's so colorful: 

It's from Marc Chagall, and it's called "The Circus Horse". You can see a little pony in the middle of the painting. That must be the circus horse. In the painting a lot is going on, for example a ballerina is standing on the horse and a trapezist is flying all around. On the left you can see a monster. I think it's a nice monster because it is in the circus. In the front is the circus director waving and smiling. In the background you can see the audience. 

30 KNEEBENDS: In a couple of weeks the Olympic Winter Games in the Russian city Sotschi will begin. To get the people in the mood, the subway company in Moscow thought of this: at the the subway station Vystavochnaya, where daily thousands of people get on and off trains, people also have to buy tickets. Why not a kneebend-ticket machine? Now there is one! it has an embedded motion sensor that counts how many kneebends you made. If you want to ride free, you have to do thirty kneebends. People who can't do that or are too lazy have to pay 30 rubles which is approximately 67 cents in Euro. 

I signed up for that Math calender. It is fun, but it's a bit difficult. 

I found something useful on the iPad: I know how we can do a screenshot. Just hold down the home button and the off and on button. That can be useful if you want to record something or have a score that you want to show somebody who isn't there. Then you can show it to that person if he is back home again. 

Here are some helpful keyboard shortcuts for Chrome that you surely like to know: 

* CTRL+T = That will open a new tab. That can be useful when you are too lazy to take the mouse and click the new tab. 

* CTRL+N = That will open a new window. That can be useful when you have too many tabs in one window so you can open another one. 

* CTRL+O = That will open the windows explorer. That can be useful when you want to open a picture or web page in the browser. 

* CTRL+H = That will open the history page. Useful when you closed an interesting tab. 

* Mousewheel = That will open the link in a new tab in the background. That can be useful when you want to open many bookmarks at once. 

* Shift and click a link = That will open the link in a new window. That can be useful when you don't want others to see what you are working on and to pretend you are doing the link you just clicked on. 

* Click a tab with your mousewheel wherever you want = That will close the tab. That can be really useful when you don't want to click right into the x. And that is very, very useful when your Dad is bumping the table with his leg, and you can't hit the x clearly! 

* F1 = That will open the "Help!" page. That can be useful when you have a question. Then you can look it up there. 

* F11 = That will open your page in full-screen. Press it again and you will exit full-screen. There you can also take a picture with SnagIt without your bookmarks. 

I watched a Pur+ film. It was about how factories lie about their products. Eric found out that in the broccoli cream soup is just 7.1 percent from 100 percent broccoli in it. And it is allowed that factories have just 0.01 percent broccoli in it, and they can still call it broccoli soup. There are also many flavor enhancers. Also when the broccoli cream soup isn't green enough, they just put spinach-flavor in it, so the people think the soup is made out of broccoli because it's so green. 

Here is something useful to do with our iPad: It is an app called "True or False". There you can test your knowing. There are questions like: Does the U.S.A. have the most gold? Did the Romans have long hair? Is the deepest lake in the world the Lake Erie? Was George Washington the third American president? On the bottom are two big buttons. One is green and it says true on it, and the other one is red and it says false. It is really fun because you can make level up. And for each level you get a thingy like a motorcycle, a cake, a picnic-bag or something else. 

ROBOTS WIN AGAINST HUMANS: The game is called "scissors, paper, stone" and Japanese scientists made a robot who is better than a human at this game. Out of 100 games he wins 100. His trick: the robot has a highspeed camera hidden in him. The robot can see what the human is going to do: a pair of scissors, a stone, or a piece of paper. He quickly makes the gesture that will beat the human. The humans don't even know they were tricked. The researchers want to test their cameras with this game. But one question remains, what happens when two robots play against each other? 

 

JESUS AND THE SLED DOG SITTER: How do you explain a shepherd to someone who doesn't even know what a sheep is? The Canadian Bible-Community had that problem. They wanted to translate the Bible into Inuktitut. That is the language of the Inuits. But in the arctic, they don't know the words for donkey, palm tree, camels, sheep, and also shepherds. The translator had to think a bit. Donkeys were translated "animals with long ears", the sheep "animals with curly fur". But the biggest problem were the shepherds. Inuits can't imagine protecting animals without hunting them. But now the translator solved the problem: he calls shepherds "babysitters for sled dogs".

MEAN FACE: Why are lego faces in such a bad mood? Scientists found out that the most of Lego faces aren't as happy as before. They look meaner. Lego says: "We found out that boys between five and nine years more often play fights. And fighters look angry." And when the fight is over or the boys thinks that the face looks too mean, he can just swoop it for a nice face. 

SNAPCAT - Cats now can photograph themselves with a program called "Snapcat". Mathias Castello made this app for his cat and for others. When you open the app, a red dot appears. The dot moves around the screen and the cat wants to catch it and get it. The tapping on the screen takes a picture and it takes a photo of the cat's face. 

 

CARDBOARD POLICEMAN - In India, the government can't pay for policemen, so they just bought cardboard policemen and put them next to dangerous street intersections. From far away, they look just like real policemen so the car drivers look more often after other cards. And that really helps. But it can't rain, because then the cardboard is ruined.

I did a 40 minutes session at Khan-academy. Khan academy is a good site to learn stuff in math that you want to learn in math. You can easily learn what you don't know amd you want to practice more. You can choose between many topics. When you do the problems well, you even get badges. I have many badges: 15 or more meteorite badges, 8 moon badges, 1 earth badge, no sun badges, no black hole badges, 2 master challenge patches. But I will definitely get more. 

I had a lesson in Babbel. I did French. I learned a lot of French and I like Babbel. Babbel isn't hard but also not easy. First you can choose which language you want to learn or want to learn more, then you can choose between "I'm a beginner" and "I'm advanced". That is good because if you are a beginner it's not so hard, and if you are advanced it's not so easy. Then you can learn something. 

I have a DIY account now. I have more than 200 followers and I am following 776 DIYers. DIY is so cool, because you can create things (what I like to do) and then you can show them to other people. They can look at my projects and comment on them. There also are skills to do. They are there to look at and choose what you want to do. That's because if you build something like my Anti-Energy-Usage-Vacuum-Cleaner everyone can see it, and they can comment on it or even "love" it. When you like the project so much from someone, you can love it. For that you have to press the love button. Back to my Anti-Energy-Usage-Vacuum-Cleaner. You don't get a badge for that. But when you want to do something that you didn't make before, just click the skills. There you can choose what you want to do, like: Gardener, Cardboarder, Skater, Chef, Dancer, Frontend Developer, Entomologists and lots of more. My Paper Maché Dog "Elmo" wasn't my idea. It came from the skills. Therefore I got a third of a badge. If you do projects from the skills you get a third of a badge. That badge was called Papercrafter. But they didn't say to do a dog. They just said to do something out of paper Mache. I was the one who decided that I wanted to do a dog. So DIY is great. I wanted that many people can see my projects. Also my my flying sheet video. Because when I just put them on a site where my family looks sometimes, it's not really what I want. I would like when other people can see also when they don't know me. DIY allows that. You can also do a project really well so you can get an extra badge. An extra badge is always good. And if you have three thirds of a badge, you have a whole badge, and that will show up on your front page. That doesn't work with extra badges. I love DIY!

I looked up five Spanish words in Leo: 

- finger = el dedo 

- coffee machine = cafetera automatica  

- telephone book = directorio de telefonos 

- orange = la naranja 

- koala = la coala 

It wasn't hard to find them, but I think it's hard to put the apostrophe on the words, that's because I didn't put one on cafetera automática and directorio de teléfonos. But I don't think it's very important.

LIBYA: People celebrated because two years ago the sole ruler Gaddafi was governing, and now he is dead. The people like this, but there are other groups that want to  

govern them selves, so the chosen government Ali Seidan has much to work on. 

 

BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL: In the Berlinale there are many films to watch. The golden bear is the prize for the best Film of the whole Berlinale. But there also is a glass bear that is for the best kids film. There was a kids jury, I even know one of the kids in the jury who is from our school. 

 

KNUT: Knut is now stuffed in a museum. There are many paparazzi there.

This is Rabe: 

 

Rabe is a raven that I made for a play at school. I was a witch and I needed a raven. He is black with green eyes and black wings. But he has curley feathers. After the play I didn't want to throw him away, so I decided to keep him. Now he sits on my shelf in my room and looks at me. And when I see him I often remember the play that I did with my classmates and Rabe. He is a great friend and I think he's pretty the way he is. I like Rabe. :-)

Mr. Grumbley is a dog that I gave as a present to my mom. As accessories he has

My mom doesn't like a dog in our house, but I wanted to tease her a bit, so I also made paw imprints and dog poo out of paper. But I also had plastic bags so that she could clean up the dog poo. After a while she started to like Grumbley, but now I am responsible for him. I like him because he is simple and a great friend and dog! :-)

I made him because I like model airplanes. I have one made out of plastic but I thought it would be nice to build one by myself. Because I really have enough cardboard, I looked how the plastic airplane was put together and so I did my first self-created model airplane. But you have to be careful with it, and you can't really fly it. It is there to be looked at. But I still like it in its own way! :-) 

This is Hannahs Regal: 

 

I made it for Hannah because she always wished for one. One day she asked me if I could build her a shelf. I said "yes!," and set myself to work. After two or three days I was finished with my, or Hannahs, shelf. She really liked it. And now she still likes it. It's next to her desk so she can use it. And she REALLY is using it. She puts her secret things in there, her necklaces and other things in it. I built her a secret "schublade" in it, where we should not look, since it's her shelf.

He is red and has symbols. He has a yellow face and he has a big nose. He can hold the cardboard that I use to build other things. He is a big great convenience. I can use him for: 

 

- holding my cardboard 

- taking him for walks 

- and to just have dog hwo helps me a lot

It is a vacuum cleaner which doesn't waste energy. It's handle is long so you can simply hold it. Supports help him to stand right.  

 

I use him for cleaning our room. It is a really nice idea and it works. I am glad I had that idea. I really like him. 

This is Milly: 

 

She is a Monopales. She is green, with a green tail and a pink pearl on the back of the tail. She has wings but she can't really fly high or a long distance with them. The wings are in different colors because as a type of camouflage. And the feather on her head is for enemies to think she is a big bird or eagle. I use Milly for the following: She is a really nice creature and nice to look at, and she sits on my nightstand.

He is a Monopales. (That's the name of his creature.) He is blue and he has a blue pearl on the back of his green tail. He has wings, but he can't fly with them for too long, because they are so tiny. They are in different colors because enemies then think they are poison. His hair is red, as well as his camouflage. He has star-shaped pupils. He has a dot on his butt. I can use him in this way: Alfred is on top of my nightstand. He is nice to look at.

Pigs in factory farms can't move around 

so much. 

They don't see the sun for their whole lives. 

But pigs on free range farms can walk and run around 

whereever they want to. 

On some free range farms, if you buy liver sausage or other 

pig products, there is a little picture of the pig on the glass, 

you can look at, and you know what pig it was that gave you 

the liver sausage. 

And somewhere there is a school especially 

for pigs. There the pigs learn their names and you can say, "Edelgard!" 

and then she will come. 

The manager said that all pigs wanted to get the food first, 

so they created that machine to say the names. 

Now the pig FIRST go to the food box, when the computer  

their names.

tick no because I think the new laws are going to be bad

Germany 

People from institute for animal testing say: "we need the 

animals for us people too. Because we can see  

how they react. That we can use for medicine for  

us humans." But Animal rights activists say: "The animals don't have it nice there. 

They just are used from those people". 

Also animal rights activists say that to circuses too: "They 

torture the animals to do that." 

But the circus people say:" We live from the animals. 

We want to bring people and animals together." 

 

Brasil 

In Brasil there is a blind surfer. 

He says to surf is a nice thing for him. 

He can hear the waves and can feel them. 

His trainer says:" Darek is more talented as  

other surfers."

The EU 

The EU helps farmers to extend their

But there is a problem: The EU says that they need more money to  

complete their tasks they have to do .But the money has to come from  

somewhere. The conference about that had to be closed because the  

chancellors couldn't find a solution. 

That means they have to meet once more.  

I don´t want to be a chancellor. ;-)
