Jan 21, 1998: My vote for the Internet software of 1997 is Net2Phone by IDT.   With it, I use my computer in Berlin to call telephones in the States for 16 cents a minute.

June 25, 1997: Infoseek now registers your homepage instantly! I registered an article homepage I wrote and within 10 minutes it appeared as number one at a keyword search. Go to http://www.infoseek.com and type in "english teachers digital age" and see for yourself, then add your homepage.

July 8, 1997: Allow people to subscribe to your homepage free via PointCast! It is easy and free to do with PointCast Connections. Download PointCast 2.0 and check it out.

June 16, 1997: The new Netscape Communicator 4.0 can be used as voice mail, making an email address a phone number. Just click on the call button. If your party isn't there, leave a voice message. Find out if Netscape Communicator 4.0 is for you.

May 25, 1997: Looking for Online Audio Books? Here they are. Listen to H.G. Wells Time Machine or any other of the hundreds of books here. First, get Real Audio, then turn on your speakers, and go to AudioBooks.

Voxware is an incredible new software which compresses sound files down to less than 10% their size. For example, I compressed my 468K welcome sound file down to 18K. Because it is streaming audio, it begins playing as soon as you click, then loads the rest as it plays. This is incredible, easy-to-use technology making voice practical for web sites. : Good morning everyone! Just had my next mind blowing experience on the Internet (almost spilled my morning coffee) as I entered VoxChat and was greeted by the voices of eight people in a chat room ("Hi Edward!"). I asked who was interested in participating online in a workshop I'm giving at the Humbolt University in June. A teacher from Canada created a "Teacher's Lounge" and invited me in.
